Located amidst tea-capped hilly terrains of Urubokka in Southern Sri Lanka, the architectural experience of the church makes use of the varying terrain levels to capture scenic views of the mountains. Designed for the Anglican Diocese, the Church of Divine Love was envisioned to reinterpret and revive the character of the previous chapel. The initial appearance of the chapel which depicted the “praying hands” was retained and reinterpreted in terms of design and materiality in design of the facade and spatial experience, taking a contemporary approach while retaining the essence of the original chapel as a connection to its history.
